Claire Galloway-Weber, mezzo-soprano
John Henderson, piano
Michael Repper, conductor
Mezzo-soprano Claire Galloway Weber returns to the Baltimore War Memorial to presenta concert of works from a different perspective than one might expectconsidering their composers. First, in collaboration with pianist John Henderson, the duo will perform Robert Schumann’s iconic "Frauenliebe und -leben" song cycle. The second half of the program will feature contemporary, Baltimore-based compositions, starting with Sean Doyle’s cabaret-style "Parker Cycle" which sets text by women from Salomé to more modern-day Hollywood starlets.
The final piece on the program is the world premiere of "God as she makes this earth," setting a poem by Vanessa Moody about a female God having to apologize to, and for, her creations. The music is by Frances Pollock (composer of the opera Stinney) and features mezzo-soprano, violin, cello, alto flute, and soprano saxophone with conductor Michael Repper leading the ensemble.
