For the first concert of the 2015-2016 season, GNE explores the process of life in which our psyche and circumstances often
lead us, boldly proceeding without thought for cause or consequence, into dark and dangerous places. Jenny Olivia Johnson’s "Dollar Beers" is a pop ballad style song written as a reflection on the tragedy of loss and overwhelming self-assigned blame, while Cassie Wieland’s "what remains" ponders the psyche of a languishing soul enslaved by his own compulsion to impersonate long-lost loved ones to gain nothing but acceptance and love.  Dana Kaufman’s "Halcyon Disquiet" evokes a sense of fermenting unease and the hope for calm. Nathan Lincoln-DeCusatis’s "Collecting Sands" explores contrasting moods and movements, while Armando Bayolo’s "Chamber Symphony: Obsessioneering," is a re-instrumentation of his organ sonata, focuses on repetition. This concert also features two new works of resident composers from the 2015 Charlotte New Music Festival. A short reception will follow in the Assembly Hall.
